When it comes to storing handbags, how can you avoid damaging them?

In the same way, handbag storage is a very serious business.

A handbag is an invaluable alliance for women. Always at their side, the bag supports their diary, wallet, phone, and other essentials (or not!) while adding a touch of elegance to their outfit. Since handbags are so much more than simple accessories, and because some have a limited budget, it would be better to store them in the most appropriate way to keep them intact for many years to come. What are the benefits of properly storing your handbags?

If you don’t properly store your handbags, the materials used to make them (such as leather or nubuck) can be damaged. Not properly storing your handbags but then storing them carelessly can result in irreparable damage.

It is possible for your favorite fashion accessory to become tarnished if it rarely leaves your wardrobe and if you store it in an open place. If you do not receive the protective cover (the famous dust bag), it is an object that is easily found on the market. It is therefore advisable to use it as much as possible. If you have not received it, it is easy to find it.

It’s also a good idea to cover them with a fine cloth that will accumulate dust in their place. They are easier to clean on a daily basis, regardless of whether the bag is a luxury or a regular one.

Using your dust bag for all your bags may make it hard to distinguish them on the shelf if you use it for all. It is therefore recommended that you take a photograph of your bag, and then hang it on your protective cover, just like you did with shoe boxes. In this way, you will save valuable time in the morning when choosing a bag that matches your outfit.

What is the best way to store your handbags? Do you store them vertically or horizontally?

As there is no space lost, the horizontal solution seems ideal. Nevertheless, if you stack the bags on top of each other with their closures, they are at risk of getting caught. As a result of the accumulation, those at the bottom of the pile will also be hurt, and may deform. So how do you store your handbags, especially when you have multiple ones?

Vertical storage is therefore preferred. However, some precautions should be taken:

  • Overtightening them may damage them.

  • Make sure you take the protective covers off when you take them out so that they don’t catch on each other.

  • Fill the soft bags with stuffing so they stand upright and don’t wrinkle.

Handbag storage: how should you do it?

Handbags are best stored upright to prevent deformations and damage. You can also stuff them with crumpled up newspaper so they don’t flatten.

How should you store your handbags?

You should devote a shelf in your dressing room for your bags, near your other accessories, if you have a dressing room.

If you don’t have a dressing room, you need to be able to store all your bags in a wardrobe, either in your bedroom (again, next to your other accessories for convenience) or near the entrance since we don’t keep our bags in the house.

Last but not least, we recommend keeping your bags in a closed cupboard to avoid light discoloration. Closing your cupboard will also protect them from dust, so you won’t have to clean them before wearing them.

Can you hang your handbags?

It may seem tempting and, moreover, attractive to hang your handbags on a bar, but it is actually a bad idea. In fact, the shoulder strap will eventually wear out if your bags are stored in this way, as the weight of the bag will pull it down and weaken it. The hook solution must therefore remain an exception, but it can be used for a nice “staging”, for example in the entrance.

Here are some ideas for displaying extra coat hooks on the wall

The handle of a tote bag or a light canvas sports bag will be less affected by suspension treatment (suspension) than the handle of a bag that is more fragile.

Leather goods storage alternatives

In addition to the perfect dressing room, you can store your handbags in other places as well. Using hanging storage systems like the Pocketta from Umbra or the Pluring from Ikea does not require much space. As a general rule, these installations are to be hung on your wardrobe. These solutions take up little space, just a few coat hangers, and are a good alternative to dedicated shelves.

In particular, you can find straps to be installed behind doors. You can opt for diversion solutions for bags that are less fragile. They don’t take up much space and allow you to store several bags without worrying about them being in danger. To keep their bags upright on the shelves, some will use curtain hooks, while others will use lid hangers or bookends!
